Laurie Jean Moore

I grew up in Southern California and I started drawing before I went to kindergarten. Through my school years I did a lot of doodling and did not really take art too seriously until the last year of High school. I studied ceramics and art history and graduated in 1974 with a BA in applied art.

I’ve always been drawn to nature particularly the ocean. I occasionally paint ‘en Plein air.’ Since moving to the Midwest in 2016 all of my Seascapes are painted in the studio from photo. I use a palette knife mostly and a brush for the drawing and underpainting. I love the texture I can get with using oil paints on canvas with a palette knife. The feel of spreading the paint on the canvas has a satisfying feel.
