IAL Member Show Reception
The art show reception for IAL members took place on the morning of August 17th, 2024 at the Time Gallery, spanning two floors. It was a wonderful opportunity to admire over 90 works of talented artists within our group, showcasing various mediums such as 2D — graphite, watercolor, oil, acrylic, ink, colored pencils, markers, mixed media, photography, digital art, and 3D — mixed media, stained glass, and even Pysanka eggs.
Member artists could submit up to 3 pieces designated to fit into one of 6 categories - 2D professional, 2D Semi-Professional, 2D Amateur, Photography, Digital, and 3D. Both ribbons and monetary awards were given in each category, along with the overall "Best of Show". New this year was a “People’s Choice” award - only entries that did not receive a ribbon were eligible.
Refreshments contributed to a fun sugar high of cookies, cookies, and more cookies as attendees enjoyed viewing the captivating art displayed on both floors. Following this, everyone gathered in the reception area where the IAL president and other members shared updates on upcoming events and announcements.
This year's judge, Christopher Gauthier, a professor at ICC (Illinois Central College) with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees, offered an inspiring talk and critique, urging artists to "keep it fresh" and embrace the unexpected. He ended by offering to engage with individuals in the gallery, providing feedback and insights.
The atmosphere was filled with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. Artists exchanged stories about their creative processes and inspirations, forming new connections and rekindling old friendships. The high energy of the morning was a testament to the thriving artistic community within IAL, and many left feeling invigorated and motivated to push the boundaries of their work even further.
As the event came to a close and attendees began to disperse to continue their Saturday activities, they seemed reluctant to leave the inspiring environment. The air was filled with congratulations and positive feedback resonating throughout the group.
The gallery's walls, hung with diverse and captivating art, seemed to echo with the creativity and passion of the artists. It was clear that the IAL Member Show Reception was more than just an exhibition; it was a celebration of art, community, and the limitless possibilities that arise when creative minds come together.
