Dawn Maloney

Born and raised in central Illinois, I studied in the graphic design program at Illinois Central College, but my career was in banking. Being a wife, mother and banker, consumed most of my free time for the past 40+ years! However, my passion for art and nature have always remained. While I still found time to dabble in my hobby, from Halloween costumes to taking classes with professional artists.

Now retired, I am now able to recommit myself to creating my art, teaching beginning watercolor and being involved in my local art community.  I have worked in many media types over the years, from clay and fiber to painting.  Currently, I am concentrating on pastels and watercolor and strive daily to improve at my craft and enjoy the making and learning process.  Plein Air painting and taking the time to “Look until you really see” gives me much pleasure, and I am attempting to spend more time painting in nature.

I am a member of the Illinois Art League in Peoria, IL, Illinois Prairie Pastel Society, the Chicago Pastel Painters, and The Palette and Chisel in Chicago.  I try to participate central IL area art events; I have exhibited at shows through the Illinois Art League and occasionally participate in Art Fairs or Festivals.

I serve as the curator of the “Time” Gallery in the Morton Community Bank “Clocktower” office building in East Peoria.  I also served as artist coordinator for the successful, but now discontinued, Eureka Lilac Festival and Fine Arts Fair. 2000-2007

I maintain a permanent display of artwork for sale at Main Gallery 404 in Bloomington, IL, which has great collection of pieces for sale by local artists.
